INDEPENDENT THINKING. INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS.PORTFOLIO — VOL. 01

AI & full-stack engineer

The humanlayer.

Intelligent systems depend on human judgment. I bring both to the work.

I’m Akira Tensai. I build AI-powered products, connect complex data, and pay attention to what the system might miss.

A good answer.
A better question.

Fluent isn’t the same as faithful. The important work is often noticing what an answer quietly assumes.

Switch the draft. See the judgment behind it.

REVIEW EXERCISE / 001
THE SOURCE

In a trial with 120 participants, people using the tool completed one sorting task 18% faster on average. Satisfaction was not measured.

ORIGINAL RESPONSE

“The tool makes everyone 18% more productive—and happier.”

!Sounds confident. Goes beyond the evidence.
An original demonstration. Fictional study; no client material.

2023.12 — 2026.05

Connecting care, conversation, and data.

A healthcare chatbot is only as useful as the information behind it. I connected conversational AI with retrieval, data pipelines, and the infrastructure needed to bring it into everyday use.

Project notes

Developed a healthcare chatbot using the ChatGPT API and Pinecone. Built pipelines with MongoDB, DynamoDB, and ElastiCache, and deployed a Next.js frontend on Docker and AWS. Automated service workflows with Zapier and HubSpot, led cross-functional scoping, and mentored junior engineers.

From my résumé; project materials are not reproduced here.

ChatGPT API / Pinecone / Next.js / AWS

ONE MEASURE OF IMPACT

50% less manual data entry

through workflow automation

2021.11 — 2023.12

Better predictions. More relevant experiences.

From churn prediction to content recommendations, I built models and data systems that helped teams understand their audiences—and turn that understanding into better product decisions.

Project notes

Built churn prediction and advertising fraud detection models, NLP support tools, and a collaborative-filtering recommendation engine. Developed analytics infrastructure with Apache Spark and Amazon Redshift, alongside content generation and tagging workflows with LangChain.

From my résumé; project materials are not reproduced here.

PyTorch / TensorFlow / Spark / Redshift

ONE MEASURE OF IMPACT

20% fewer false positives

in advertising fraud detection

Turning security signals into timely action.

High-volume data becomes valuable when people can act on it. I developed streaming analytics and machine-learning systems to make network threats easier to detect and faster to respond to.

Project notes

Designed network traffic pipelines with Kafka and Spark Streaming. Built machine-learning models for anomaly detection and NLP tools for threat analysis, processed security telemetry with Hadoop, and deployed analytical models on Kubernetes.

From my résumé; project materials are not reproduced here.

Kafka / Spark Streaming / TensorFlow / Kubernetes

ONE MEASURE OF IMPACT

50% shorter threat response time

with streaming network analytics
03 / THE HUMAN CONTRIBUTION

Behind the model.

AI training and annotation are part of my practice: bringing human attention to the material that shapes a model.

04 / A NOTE ABOUT ME

A person,
before a discipline.

I’m Akira, an AI and full-stack engineer based in Tokyo. My work sits where data, software, and human decisions meet.

I move between models, interfaces, and infrastructure because the useful answer rarely lives in just one layer. I care about the connections: what the data means, how the system behaves, and what a person needs from it.
